AB - Background: Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is an acute infectious process that attacks the upper respiratory system from the mouth, nose to the lungs. ARI can reduce food intake and interfere the absorption of macro and micro nutrients that can affect immunity. Women who were prison are also vulnerable to infection due to high stress levels and need more nutrients, especially iron to maintain their health status. Objective: To study is to assess relationship of energy adequacy, nutritional adequacy, and hemoglobin levels to the incident history of Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) in women prisoners at Class IIA Tangerang Prison. Methods: This study was cross-sectional research design with purposive sampling and the total of 30 subject were recruited. The data was collected by interviewing method using questionnaire for characteristics, incidence of ARI, and 2 x 24- hour Food Recall. The Relationship was tested using Chi-Square. Results and Conclusions: the results of Chi-Square test showed that there was no significant correlation between energy adequacy, macronutrient adequacy, iron adequacy, vitamin C adequacy and hemoglobin levels on the incidence of ARI with p value > 0.05, and there was a significant correlation between the adequacy of vitamin A on the incidence of infection with p-value 0.001 (p-value < 0.05). Because Vitamin A is significant for the incident of ARI, vitamin A need to be added thrpugh food and supplementation.
